My name is Claudia Childress and I am running for County Commissioner in District 3.
I have a strong heritage in Idaho State. My relatives came in 1889 to Troy, ID. Others came in the late 1880.s to this
county.
A Great Aunt was a telephone operator during the 1910
fire
in Wallace. I have had relatives that worked in the mines, owned businesses and were in the logging industry in Shoshone
County. I also have a grandfather that taught at schools from 1924 to 1962. Some of those schools were in Rathdrum and CDA.
I come from a family of men that have served in the military. My father, a graduate of Wallace HS, was a tail gunner
during
WWII. He was shot down over the English channel, survived and went on to fly 34 missions. On his last mission his plane was
shot over Germany and he became a POW. My father in law fought on the beaches of Normandy. My husband, Randy, served 8 ½ yrs.
in the Air Force and served 2 tours in Vietnam. We moved together to Mtn. Home, ID, South Carolina, Tacoma and Colorado
Springs.
In 1974, we moved home to Babin.s Junction near Prichard. I worked in my family.s grocery/gas store and in the RV
campground.
I did volunteer work with the forest service, the fire dept., the community club and in my church. I also wrote articles
similar to Joe Peak.s in the late 1980.s under the pin name of CJ Huckleberry. We had a daughter graduate from Wallace HS in
1984 and a son graduate in 1986.
In 1988 we moved to Moscow where my husband was an Idaho State Policeman. We have one daughter that graduated from Moscow
HS.
Our children attended North Idaho College and the University of Idaho. All of our children live in north Idaho and have
blessed us with 9 grand children.
I spent time working in the Wallace School district before starting an independent contractors business with the
Yellowstone
Pipeline. This is the Conoco gas line that goes through Shoshone Co. and supplies all of the gas, diesel and jet fuel used in
the Inland Empire. In this position I was the public liaison, an occasional inspector and responsible for clearing the line
and maintaining the signs across the state. I did this for 12 years, while working in the Shoshone and Latah Co. school
districts during the off season.
In 1995 we purchased the old hotel in Murray and renovated it opening the 1884 Murray House Bed and Breakfast. I ran this
business while caring for my father n law, who had Parkinson.s disease and taking care of my husband, who was injured on a
construction job site. After my parent.s Lloyd and Jo Babin passed away in 1999 and 2000, we purchased the Babin property and
continue to operate the RV Park.
In 2002, my husband and I began real estate careers. I am currently selling real estate with the Realteam Company. I
belong
to both Chamber of Commerce.s and do volunteer work in the community.
If elected, my experiences from the past will guide me as I am able to present new approaches to problems, give leadership
to
situations that challenge us all and empathize with those of all ages, positions and circumstances within the county.
We are a county of rich natural resources, which need to be used to help us survive and grow. We have the ability to
entertain tourists for 7 day vacations. With God.s help we will not only survive this difficult time, but we will be able to
reach our hands out to helping our neighboring counties and our state.
I am a conservative person in my beliefs, a servant is my thoughts and a person willing to listen, lead and promote all of
Shoshone Co.
Thank you for voting for me.
